Well, in the blink of an eye, April has suddenly appeared, although some days recently it has felt like July and others have felt like October! On the right side, the generally nice weather has meant that the crops are having a better year so far than in the last few years. Farming is a big gamble every year, and it has felt that we haven’t been on a winning streak, let’s all keep our fingers and toes crossed that England keeps itself together and manages to keep giving us nice weather until harvest.

Aside from our farm work, we are so excited to be finally getting our plants back in – I really do love having them in as it means that I get to hear so much more about the gardens and allotments you have, and I get sent lots of nice photos of where you’re growing them and how they’re doing (please do keep this up this year, it brings us all a bit of joy when I check the social media inboxes!). Please do make sure you pop your head into the farm shop office to check out our seed packets and seed potatoes and onions, it’s the perfect time and weather to get ahead of the game and get as many veggies into the ground as you can; don’t they always taste a bit sweeter when you’ve grown them yourself?

We were thrilled with the reception we got last year for our plants, so Chris and the team decided to expand the plant area, mostly as we had a lot of you asking if we were going to get bedding plants in and asking about different types of veg plants in. So, we will have the range we had last year, plus lots more too. We can’t think of a better way to spend the Easter holidays with the kids or grandchildren than getting a bit mucky planting seeds and plants in your garden or allotment to eat later in the year!

We are even giving the garden furniture it’s own area, but this will still be inside our big shed if you’re coming to look for a lovely new bench or some seats, perhaps you’ll need a bench as a vantage point to watch all your plants from Laverock Hall growing and thriving!

Please do feel free to comment or send us a message to ask for some plants and its likely that we can ask a supplier and try to get some added onto our order, we really need you – the valued customers – to help us decide which plants are going to be best, and which ones you’d like to buy. We are so thankful that each year people are coming to us for more and more products, and can’t believe the plants and garden side of our farm shop only began from us selling some compost during covid as a lot of people were beginning to garden due to free time and great weather!

Keeping up with the plants in our shop is going to be my big job of the next few months, but for Chris and George they’ll be more focussed on the awesome Autumnal activities which allow us to welcome you to our farm premises… that’s right, it’s the time of year when we start to prep and plant our pumpkin seeds and our sunflower seeds, so watch this space and be ready to join us (we hope) in 2025 for some fun events!
